Jitsi Meet<\/a> is an open-source video conferencing solution, providing virtual meeting rooms for remote team meetings. The software provides high video and audio quality and supports fully encrypted connections using TLS\/SSL and Let\u2019s Encrypt<\/a> certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Updating server<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Update the system’s existing software:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

$ sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Step 2: Installing nginx<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Before installing Jitsi Meet, install a Nginx<\/a> server. The reverse proxy for the Jitsi web interface will be the Nginx server. If Nginx is installed on the system, the Jitsi installation program will handle its settings. Run the scripts below to install and activate Nginx:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ sudo apt install -y nginx\n$ systemctl start nginx.service\n$ systemctl enable nginx.service<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Step 3: Installing Jitsi meet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Ensure support for apt repositories served via HTTPS<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ sudo apt install apt-transport-https<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
On Ubuntu systems, Jitsi requires dependencies from Ubuntu’s universe<\/kbd> package repository. To ensure this is enabled, run this command:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ sudo apt-add-repository universe<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
$ curl https:\/\/download.jitsi.org\/jitsi-key.gpg.key | sudo sh -c 'gpg --dearmor > \/usr\/share\/keyrings\/jitsi-keyring.gpg'\n$ echo 'deb [signed-by=\/usr\/share\/keyrings\/jitsi-keyring.gpg] https:\/\/download.jitsi.org stable\/' | sudo tee \/etc\/apt\/sources.list.d\/jitsi-stable.list > \/dev\/null<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Update package versions across all repositories:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ sudo apt update<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Launch the installation of Jitsi Meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ apt install -y jitsi-meet<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n
Configure hostname meet.exemple.com<\/kbd> .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your private Jitsi Meet instance is ready for a first conference call. Open a Web-browser and enter domain of your instance, for example: https:\/\/meet.exemple.com<\/code>. You’ll see the following screen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Generate a Let’s Encrypt certificate (optional, recommended)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
You require a TLS certificate<\/a> to have encrypted communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Obtaining a certificate that has been authorized by a Certificate Authority<\/a> is the best approach. By doing this, you can prevent issues with a self-signed certificate. Using Let’s Encrypt<\/a> is the simplest method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just execute the following commands in your shell:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
$ sudo \/usr\/share\/jitsi-meet\/scripts\/install-letsencrypt-cert.sh<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n

Jitsi Installation is complete now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
